Address: Ouseburn Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 2PA
Built on the former site of the Northumberland Lead Works, the Ouseburn Farm encapsulates the valley’s transformation from a place dominated by the sounds and smells of heavy industry, to a peaceful place of sustainability and creativity. Being a farm it has plenty of animals to see including sheep, goats, pigs, ponies and chickens, as well as some more unexpected residents such as chinchillas, guinea pigs, tortoises and geckos, with regular petting sessions at weekends for children big and small.
The visitors’ centre has a café that sells hot food all year round, and they also sell gifts and fresh farm-grown produce. Ouseburn Farm has regular art and photography exhibitions and hosts music performances during the school holidays. The whole farm is family-friendly and accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs. Admission is free but donations are always welcome.
